The trailer for Stephen Spielberg's film adaptation of the children's book "War Horse" promises a visual experience that mirrors the grandeur of the book originally written by Michael Morpurgo. Nominated for a Whitbread Book award in 1982, "War Horse" was adapted for the stage in 2007 and is currently performed at Lincoln Center in New York City. The story follows the challenges faced by Joey, a British cavalry horse, during World War I. Somewhat reminiscent of Anna Sewell's "Black Beauty", "War Horse" presents themes of humanity and stewardship in a manner that makes this book one for all readers. Before heading out to see the movie or while you're waiting for the DVD to be released, I hope that you'll consider reading the original "War Horse" by Michael Morpurgo.
