Go Team Veggie Go

With football season in mind I decided to put together a winning team of books about vegetables. The cheerleading squad is “Rah, rah, Radishes!: A Vegetable Chant” by April Pulley Sayre. April has combined mouthwatering pictures taken at the South Bend Farmer’s Market with a catchy little rhyme and shout out rhythm to make this a fun and exciting read.

The quarterback is “I Like Vegetables” by Lorena Siminovich. Little ones can explore their world with this touch and feel board book about vegetables. Bright colorful illustrations abound in the book with an opportunity to touch the roughness of a carrot or the kernels on an ear of corn.

The kicker is a contemporary classic “Growing Vegetable Soup” by Lois Ehlert. Bright colorful cut-paper collages and few words per page make this a perfect read aloud choice. After reading aloud you and your child can re-read identifying all the different vegetables plants on each page.
