Glow in the Dark fun
Did you go to one of our Glow in the Dark programs this summer? If so, you probably made some cool slime that glowed or a lava lamp. If you would like to do those crafts at home, here are the directions.
Glow in the Dark Slime
1 Plastic Bag
Clear Glue
Glow in the Dark Paint
Tablespoon water
Over saturated solution of Borax with water
Pour 1 TB of clear glue into plastic baggie. Add tsp water and mix gently with your fingers. Add a dime size amount of glow-in-the-dark paint and mix thoroughly. Add Tablespoon of borax solution and mix again. If it is still a little watery, just pour off the excess and you have slime. *This craft works with regular glue also but the results are not as vibrant.

Highlighter Lava Lamp
1. Fill a water bottle half way with water.
2. Take the ink soaked tube out of the middle of a highlighter and squeeze the highlighter ink into the bottle to color the water.
3. Fill the rest of the water bottle with baby oil and you have a highlighter lava lamp that is black light reactive.
Two glow in the dark crafts you can do at home. How cool is that?!?!

Summer Reading Clubs start June 1
Summer is here. Time to find things to keep yourselves busy.
In between ballgames and visits to the pool, make sure to find some time to
read. READ?! Over the summer? YES! Reading is a skill just like playing a sport
or musical instrument—if you don’t practice, you won’t get better. That is
where Summer Reading Club at the St. Louis County Library comes in. If you read
just a little bit over the summer, you can earn some great prizes. And guess
what! We have summer reading clubs for all ages: Babies, Kids, Teens and
Adults. So everyone in the family can join in the fun.
Don’t forget to check our Events page or our events brochure
for some great programs this summer too. We will have performers, movie nights,
craft programs and more, so there is something for everyone.
STARTS: June 1
WHERE: all 20 St. Louis County Library branches
HOW:
1.
Come to your local branch and get a log sheet
2.
Keep track of your reading by using either
number of minutes or number of books
3.
You can read books, magazines, comic books or
even listen to audio books—whatever you want.
4.
Read to yourself, read to someone else or have
someone else read to you—it all counts
5.
When you reach each level, come in for your
prize.
REMEMBER: Summer Reading Club ends on August 4. Make sure to
pick up your prizes by then.
For more information, visit your local branch or call us at
314-994-3300.
