Review: "Lucy" by Randy Cecil

When a body starts reading chapter books, should they really have to give up pictures? Randy Cecil, in his new book "Lucy," says certainly not. There is a little lost dog, Sam, a juggler with crippling stage fright, and Eleanor, the little girl who will unknowingly unite them all. The story is divided up into acts, and each page sports a few sentences with an engaging illustration to highlight the text. The words are simple, but the meaning is complex. This heart-warming tale is appropriate for first graders on up who would appreciate a chapter book that is a picture book, or a picture book that is a chapter book.
