Most illustrations are created to give us an idea of what is there. Yerkes has designed a story around something that is not there--a little bird that is almost, but not quite invisible. Throughout the book we see only the silhouette of the bird: his eye, his beak, and his footprints. Which is the whole problem...because this little bird wants to be seen.
As the bird begins to collect decorations for himself, he becomes proud of his new accouterments and struts his stuff, only to find that his invisibility is an asset after all. It is a sweet little story of self-worth in a unique and deceptively simple illustrative style. And as an added bonus, there's textured leaves on the cover to make it even more appealing to little ones. Great for preschool to first grade.
