Review: "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio

"Wonder," by R.J. Palacio is a story about a ten year old boy named August Pullman, better known at Auggie, who loves doing ordinary things like eating ice cream, riding his bike and playing Xbox. He feels ordinary on the inside but knows that people don't look at him and see an ordinary ten year old boy. Auggie was born with facial deformities. Now that he is done with most of his surgeries for now, him mom thinks it's time for him to go to a school instead of homeschooling. So he enters fifth grade at Beecher Prep. So not only is he the new kid, but the new kid with this extraordinary face. he is afraid to face the kids' reactions to his appearance. Can Auggie overcome fear and convince his classmates that he is just an ordinary kid like them? Recommended for readers in grades three through six.
